Mumbai: Despite receiving a severe jolt at the recently concluded Maharashtra elections, NCP (SP) supremo Sharad Pawar on Sunday said that he was 'not going to sit at home'.

According to him, the Majhi Ladki Bahin scheme, a large participation on behalf of women, polarisation and communal twist, played a major role in the landslide win of the ruling Maha Yuti.

Pawar said, “Yesterday the results came out and today I am in Karad. I am not going to sit at home. Those who were demoralised would have sat at home”.

Responding to some leaders of the Ajit Pawar-led NC who were asking him to retire, the 83-year-old said, “They cannot decide what I should do. My colleagues and I will decide that.”

“Women’s participation in large numbers could be a key reason for the Maha Yuti sweep in Maharashtra. We will study the reasons for the debacle and take necessary steps," he said.

“We will study the results when details come out. We will go to people again,” he said and added that without any details he would not like to comment on EVMs.

Pawar also defended the decision to field Yugendra Pawar from Baramati against Ajit Pawar. "The NCP has performed well and there is nothing wrong with accepting it.

He said the MVA was more confident after achieving success in Lok Sabha elections, adding that more work needs to be done.
