The Maratha reservation demand is the No1 poll issue in the state and it has already hit the ruling Maha Yuti hard during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

“Don’t look at the watch…work round-the-clock…give 30 to 40 days of hard work…you will witness the change,” said Jarange-Patil, the founder of Shivba Sanghatana, who is spearheading the demand for the last 14 months.

Jarange-Patil is campaigning in his village Antarwali Sarati in the Ambad tehsil of Jalna district.

“All of you don’t come and ask for tickets. Giving tickets to all is not possible,” he said.

Once the ticket distribution process is over, Jarange-Patil would undertake extensive tours criss-crossing the state campaigning for candidates.

“We are contesting seriously and we are contesting to win the elections,” he said.

Some senior politicians, which includes ex-MLAs, who had been sidelined by their parties have approached Jarange-Patil expressing desire to contest the elections.

The last date of filing of nominations is 29 November - and Jarange-Patil is contemplating announcing candidates over the weekend.

Assembly Elections 2024 | The Maharashtra Assembly polls will take place against the backdrop of a fractured political landscape in the western state where the Shiv Sena and NCP will be going up against the Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar factions, even as the BJP and Congress try to make their mark. Meanwhile, in Jharkhand, the JMM faces a new challenge after Hemant Soren's recent arrest and Champai, a longstanding party member, joining the BJP. The Haryana election resulted in a shock loss for Congress, which was looking to galvanize on the Lok Sabha poll performance, while J&K also saw the grand old party eventually stepping away from the cabinet, with Omar Abdullah's JKNC forming government. It remains to be seen if the upcoming polls help BJP cement its position further or provide a fillip to I.N.D.I.A.
