Mumbai: In a significant development in the Thackeray-family and Maharashtra politics, Raj Thackeray’s son Amit would contest the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections.
Raj, the founder-President of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, has nominated his son Amit to contest from Mahim.
Raj is the nephew of late Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray and estranged cousin of Uddhav Thackeray, the current head of Shiv Sena (UBT).
Amit is the second person from the Thackeray clan to contest polls.
In the 2019 polls, Uddhav’s son and Raj’s nephew Aaditya, who is an MLA, contested and won the polls from Worli.
Uddhav was the Maharashtra Chief Minister from 28 November, 2019-30 June, 2022. However, he was elected as an MLC.
Balasaheb always stayed away from politics and controlled things from what is now politically described as “remote control”.
