Mumbai: In a significant development in the Maharashtra politics ahead of Vidhan Sabha polls, Yuvraj Sambhaji Raje Chhatrapati - a descendent of legendary Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and eminent social reformer Chhatrapati Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj - has get his political party registered and secured an election symbol.
Sambhaji Raje is the son of Shahu Chhatrapati Maharaj, the Kolhapur MP of the Congress party, who is a respected figure in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (I.N.D.I.A.) opposition bloc.
The 53-year-old Sambhaji Raje has floated Swarajya Sangathan on 9 August, 2022 as a social outfit.
However, now he has got a political party registered.
The Election Commission of India has registered Maharashtra Swarajya Paksha as a political party.
The Maharashtra Swarajya Party has received the election symbol “pen nib with seven rays” for the upcoming Assembly elections.
“With the support of thousands of farmers and laborers it is now officially registered as a political party and has a symbol ahead of Assembly polls,” Sambhaji Raje said on Tuesday.
“Last year, we took our organization as a party door to door, now it is our duty to take the election symbol to them,” he added.
"With the support of the farmers and the working class, we could register our party," he added.
Sambhaji Raje has floated as Parivartan Mahashakti - which includes Swaraj founder Yuvraj Sambhaji Raje Chhatrapati, a descendent of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, Bacchu Kadu, the founder of Prahar Janshakti and Raju Shetti of Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana.
Sambhaji Raje is also in touch with Manoj Jarange-Patil to create a larger front and take on the ruling Maha Yuti and opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi.
“The need for a new and civilized alternative to the politics of the state is Maharashtra Swarajya Party candidates and we would bring in a transformation in Maharashtra politics,” he said.
