Pune: The colour of our blood is red, said NCP (SP) supremo’s grand-nephew and MLA Rohit Pawar while defending Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
The Gandhi scion had come under fierce attack of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for displaying the red-coloured abridged ready-reference copy of the Constitution.
“You can't use narratives on dividing people on the lines of religion and caste. They are speaking about red-coloured Constitution…let them once read that,” Rohit Pawar, who is the MLA from Karjat-Jamkhed in Ahilyanagar (earlier Ahmednagar) district.
Rohit Pawar also accused the BJP-led Maha Yuti dispensation - which also includes Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar-led NCP - of rampant corruption.
“Just wait for 10 days…the Maha Vikas Aghadi government is coming…we will expose the scam…at least 70 to 80 MLAs will have to permanently shift to Guwahati,” Rohit Pawar said DH on the sidelines of his campaign trail in the Pune district.
Rohit Pawar said that the BJP has put people of Maharashtra in a sort of chakravyuh and only Sharad Pawar can pull them out of this mess. “Whether it is inflation, price rise, security, safety of women, poverty…people are in a chakravyuh (because of the BJP and its allies),” he said, adding that only people like Sharad Pawar with a vision and progressive outlook can change things.
He also slammed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BJP’s star campaigner Yogi Adityanath for the ‘batange to karange’ slogan. “Yogi Bhau is saying ‘batenge to katange’…he is saying this in the land which is known for its saints…Maharashtra is the bhoomi of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Chhatrapati Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar,” he said.
Rohit Pawar also pointed out that several mega-projects from Maharashtra have been shifted to Gujarat. “How can such a thing happen,” he questioned.
Assembly Elections 2024 | The Maharashtra Assembly polls will take place against the backdrop of a fractured political landscape in the western state where the Shiv Sena and NCP will be going up against the Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar factions, even as the BJP and Congress try to make their mark. Meanwhile, in Jharkhand, the JMM faces a new challenge after Hemant Soren's recent arrest and Champai, a longstanding party member, joining the BJP. The Haryana election resulted in a shock loss for Congress, which was looking to galvanize on the Lok Sabha poll performance, while J&K also saw the grand old party eventually stepping away from the cabinet, with Omar Abdullah's JKNC forming government. It remains to be seen if the upcoming polls help BJP cement its position further or provide a fillip to I.N.D.I.A.
