Mumbai: Elect a party that works for Maharashtra, not Gujarat, said Congress Working Committee member Dr Syed Nasir Hussain slamming the BJP-led Centre and the Maha Yuti dispensation in the poll-bound state.
“The Eknath Shinde-Devendra Fadnavis-Ajit Pawar government is working not for Maharashtra, but for Gujarat. During the tenure of the massively corrupt BJP alliance government, major contracts were awarded to Gujarat-based contractors, and projects such as Tata-Airbus, Vedanta-Foxconn, diamond industry hub, and bulk drugs park, which belonged to Maharashtra, were shifted to Gujarat, taking away local jobs as well,” said Dr Hussian, who is a senior observer for North Maharashtra.
“BJP's alliance government not only handed over Maharashtra's projects and employment to Gujarat but also facilitated the influx of large amounts of drugs from Gujarat into Maharashtra, ruining the youth,” he alleged.
Dr Hussain alleged that the BJP alliance government is corrupt and full of scandals. “This 40 per cent commission government has broken many records in scams. This includes a Rs. 10,000 crore scam in Jalyukt Shivar, an Rs. 8,000 crore ambulance scam, a Rs. 6,000 crore road scam in Mumbai, and many more. Companies that provided large donations to BJP through electoral bonds were given major projects in Maharashtra,” he said.
According to him, the BJP, which accuses others of corruption, takes those same individuals into their party, like Ajit Pawar, Ravindra Waikar, and Ashok Chavan, whom their senior leaders had once accused of corruption, but now remain silent.
“The BJP has used threats from agencies like CBI and ED to break MLAs and topple opposition governments in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, and Maharashtra, which has not gone down well with the public. Just as the people of Karnataka taught BJP a lesson by bringing a Congress majority government, Maharashtra's people, who feel betrayed by BJP, will bring in a Congress-MVA government,” he said.
“During BJP's rule, atrocities against Dalits, tribals, minorities, and women have increased. Farmer suicides have also risen, with 37% of the country’s farmer suicides happening in Maharashtra. Drought-affected farmers have received no government aid, and crop insurance claims remain unpaid. Farmers are not getting fair prices for their produce, and inflation has skyrocketed,” the Congress leader pointed out.
Assembly Elections 2024 | The Maharashtra Assembly polls will take place against the backdrop of a fractured political landscape in the western state where the Shiv Sena and NCP will be going up against the Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar factions, even as the BJP and Congress try to make their mark. Meanwhile, in Jharkhand, the JMM faces a new challenge after Hemant Soren's recent arrest and Champai, a longstanding party member, joining the BJP. The Haryana election resulted in a shock loss for Congress, which was looking to galvanize on the Lok Sabha poll performance, while J&K also saw the grand old party eventually stepping away from the cabinet, with Omar Abdullah's JKNC forming government. It remains to be seen if the upcoming polls help BJP cement its position further or provide a fillip to I.N.D.I.A.
