Jaipur: Congress leader Sachin Pilot wants to forget and forgive about past events that have plagued the Congress and is all for fighting the elections unitedly now.
When asked about the MLAs in the Congress Party who did not let the Congress Legislator Party meet in September last year that was supposed to anoint him as the Chief Minister, Pilot said : “Like I said, what has gone in the past has already gone in the past. I am going by what Mr Kharge and Rahul Gandhi have told me that I must forget and forgive and look forward. The time now is to make sure that Congress forms the government and comes ahead of BJP. The way the BJP has been misusing the agencies is for the people to see. I believe that people want a change.”
Speaking to reporters after filing his nomination papers from Tonk for the upcoming Assembly elections, slated for November 25, Pilot also emphasised the protocol of choosing the leader: “Whenever elections are conducted, and if we get a majority, elected MLAs decide who will be their leader. It is the case in every state and every time. It happened last time also. This time would be no different. We are fighting the elections unitedly.”
On the issues on which Congress is fighting, Pilot said in an oblique reference to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s jibes against him: “We are fighting on development. How much development has been done is for everybody to see and compare between the different governments. I neither criticise nor bad mouth anybody. I know that the public wants development and action on issues which affect them daily. I have feedback that people are happy with our work and want the Congress to come back.”
Pilot became one of the first, prominent leaders of Congress to file his nomination from the Tonk Assembly seat today.
A huge cheering crowd with mikes blaring patriotic songs accompanied Pilot’s long cavalcade of cars on the approximately two km route to the nomination office. On the way, he accepted flowers, garlands and wishes from the people.
He also visited the Bhuteshwar Mahadev temple and offered prayers before filing his nomination.
