When asked why he keeps away from award ceremonies, the actor said, "I do accept awards but the media does not report them. I have accepted the Dinanath Mangeshkar award and also the National award. These hold some meaning so I have gone for these," Aamir told reporters here.
The actor, who has already been honoured with a Padma Shri in 2003, will accept the Padma Bhushan in the capital today.
"The Padma Bhushan is an honour which the country is giving me. I accept it with folded hands. It means a lot to me since it is my country honouring me. I don't go to other award ceremonies as they mean nothing," said Aamir.
Among the three ruling Khans of Bollywood, Aamir is the only one who has been honoured with a Padma Bhushan as neither Shah Rukh Khan nor Salman Khan have received the award.
"I do not want to surpass anyone, I am just happy doing my work. I wish that other people also do better in their work," said Aamir in reaction to the comparison.
