Veteran actress Reema Lagoo, one of Hindi film industry's most-famous screen-mother - who acted in several super-hit films like 'Maine Pyar Kiya', 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' and 'Vaastav' -- passed away in Mumbai on Thursday.

She was 59.

She is survived by daughter, Mrunmayee, who is also an actress and stage artiste. After she complained of chest pain, she was rushed to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital here, where she passed away of heart attack. “She was complaining of chest pain so we took her to hospital around 1 AM. She passed away due to a heart attack around 3.15 AM. It is shocking for all of us,” said Vinay Waikul, her son-in-law.

She is well-known for playing the main character's mother in hit Hindi movies like Maine Pyar Kiya, Qayamat se Qayamat Tak, Aashiqui, Saajan, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Vaastav, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Hum Saath-Saath Hain. She had started from theatre and graduated into films and television.

During her career spanning over three decades, she had worked with most of the top actors including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Juhi Chawla, Kajol, Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit-Nene and Preiti Zinta. Most of the films in which she had acted had turned out to be block-busters.

She was born Gurinder Bhadbhade to actress Mandakini Bhadbhade. After her marriage to actor Vivek Lagoo, she changed the same. The couple separated after two years. She had also worked in popular TV serials included Khandaan, Do aur Do Paanch Tu Tu Main Main and Shrimaan Shrimati. She was last seen in the television show Naamkaran, aired on Star Plus. Lagoo had also acted in several Marathi serials and films.
