Director: Sarkunam A

Naiyaandi was in the news for a body double controversy. After all the hype and hoopla, the movie tries to tickle its way into the hearts of the viewers as also the cash registers. Sadly, the slapstick comedy works in bits and parts. It suffers from a weak storyline and a sorry script.

Chinna Vandu (Dhanush) is a traditional lamp shop owner with two unwed elder brothers waiting in the wings. College cutie Vana Roja (Nazriya) falls for him when she comes visiting her grandma during the village carnival.

Cupid strikes, but only after the regular hiccups and high drama. With her dad turning a stumbling block, the two elope and tie the knot, but return hiding their marital status. This turns into a rather hilarious and riotous situation when Vandu’s lovelorn brothers take to wooing Roja. How the couple wriggle out of the situation forms the gist of Naiyaandi.

Dhanush does not deliver. The saving grace are Sreeman and Sathyan, with Sreeman scoring better in the comic caper. Even Ghibran’s not-so-melodious score fails to enliven the proceedings.
