Streaming giant Amazon Prime Video on Saturday unveiled the trailer of Mohanlal's upcoming Malayalam movie Drishyam 2 much to the delight of 'Lalettan' fans. The video indicates that the film is likely to feature a simple yet engaging premise with plenty of twists and turns. It confirms that the biggie is set to release digitally on February 19.

Drishyam 2, directed by filmmaker Jeethu Joseph, is a sequel to the 2013 release Drishyam and revolves around the journey of a cable operator. The film will begin where the first part had ended and answer the questions left unanswered by the prequel.

Drishyam 2 has an impressive cast that includes Meena, Esther Anil, Siddique and Ansiba Hassan.

Drishyam, which revolved around the journey of a protective father, received rave reviews for the top-notch performances and the engaging screenplay. It was later remade in multiple languages, which established it as a pan-India brand. It remains to be seen whether Drishyam 2 lives up to the high standards set by Drishyam.

The film comes at a time when the digital medium has emerged as an alternative to theatres. Several notable films such as Halal Love Story, Sufiyum Sujatayum, Penguin and Maniyarayile Ashokan released directly on streaming platforms. Most of them, however, received mixed reviews. Drishyam 2 might add a new dimension to the 'OTT vs theatres' debate if it lives up to expectations.

Mohanlal, meanwhile, is going through a busy phase on the work front. The 'Complete Actor' will soon be seen in the period-drama Marakkar, which revolves around the journey of a naval admiral. The Priyadarshan-helmed film has a stellar cast that includes Manju Warrier, 'Action King' Arjun Sarja, Suniel Shetty and Kalyani Priyadarshan. The magnum opus was supposed to release last year but that did not happen due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

There have also been talks of 'Lalettan' doing a Telugu film with Jr NTR.
