Shailendra Babu is a lavish spender – Dubai is as splendid as ever.
So much so that, the visual and audio riches sometimes leave a disgusting aftertaste. Remake of ‘Dubai Seenu’, ‘Dubai Babu’ is interspersed with some brilliant and some downright pedestrian moments.
In a crux, a youth, Dubai Babu (Upendra), cheated out of his Dubai dream, tries to help a girl Vasundhara (Nikitha) seeking to unite her estranged brother and sister-in-law with her father.
He is foiled by underworld don Jinna Bhai (Aryan Vaid). He sets out to avenge his friend’s death at the same time. Upendra is a bundle of energy and the effort to control his hyperactivity is evident in most of the scenes which kind of disrupts the flow.
Unnecessary sub-plots also add to the confusion. Nikitha is ok. Aryan Vaid’s Kannada is a pleasant surprise.
V Sridhar’s music is good, in patches. Unnecessary splicing of frames and frequent close-ups mar Anil Xavier’s work. Ramesh Pandit and Satyajit are good initially but every other comedy track prolongs boredom and snatches away interest from the viewer.
After ‘Kutumba’ and ‘Gowramma’, ‘Dubai Babu’ comes as an unpleasant surprise.
