12th Fail actor Vikrant Massey has come under fire after netizens observed a 360 degree turn in his opinions on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Once a vocal critic of the ruling party, Massey in his latest interview with Shubhankar Mishra said that he has come to realise that things are not that bad in India.
"I was a big critic of BJP. But as I travelled across the country, I realised that things are not so bad, Muslims are not in danger in the country," the actor was heard saying in the interview.
"Brother, when the next movie comes, everything will change, don't trust them so much," wrote on user in the comment section while several others expressed relief over the change in the actor's opinions.
It is noteworthy that Massey came into the spotlight earlier this year as well when he issued a public apology on X after his tweet from 2018 went viral where he had posted a cartoon of Sita telling Lord Ram: "Iβm so glad I was kidnapped by Ravan and not by your bhakts!"
"It was never my intention to hurt, malign or disrespect the Hindu community. But as I reflect in hindsight about a Tweet made in jest, I also release the distasteful nature of it. The same could have been said without adding the cartoon which was published in a newspaper," the actor wrote in his apology.
When asked in this interview if the lives of Hindus and the atrocities on them are not being talked about as much, Massey agreed that this was true till some extent, but not entirely.
"Why do you think I am not secular today? I am still a liberal, I am still secular," he declared later in interview after Mishra read out a social media post bashing Massey of transforming from a secular to a 'Kattar Hindu'.
Trolling Massey, standup comedian Kunal Kamra also took to X and shared another video clip where the actor called the India's independence in 1947 "so-called independence".
"Brother that was a movie you donβt actually have to Join UP Police as an IPS πππ," Kamra wrote.
The actor had recently said that he has received death threats on social media but he is not worried as The Sabarmati Report, set in the aftermath of the Godhra train burning incident in 2002, is "purely based on facts".
βI have been receiving threats. Without drawing attention to it, it is something which I am dealing with and we, as a team, collectively are dealing with,β Massey told reporters here at the trailer launch of the film.
βBut we are artists and we tell stories. This film is purely based on facts. Unfortunately, you have not seen the film so you should not make a preconceived notion that it is talking about only one facet," he said when asked about the Gujarat riots that followed the incident.
