Good Samaritan with a tragic past, college politics and rivalry dwarfed by those at the State-level, a lonely girl who pines for her childhood friend, adopted son’s insecurity over his position... Satya packs all these and more into this potboiler. The director plays the ‘adopted son’ of don Pashupathi (Sharat Lohitashwa), who finishes off a king maker in the State politics (Lakshman), who is determined to avenge his son Ajay(Tilak, in a forgettable role)’s incarceration at the hands of Rahul aka Kencha (Prajwal), who happens to be the estranged son of Pashupathi. Phew!
There is Shwetha (Pragna, looking cute before her Preethse Preethse turn) who is bowled over by Rahul and not interested in Ajay. There is a drug mafia in the college too.
The director gets a hold over the film somewhere towards the end. By the time the viewers join in, there is nothing left worth grasping. Stupid and crass dialogues carry the day for Satya till some twists rescue the film from inflicting irritation and torpor. The Amrish Puri-Ajay Devgan starrer ‘Phool Aur Kaante’ may very well claim credit for part of this disaster. Prajwal has grown in confidence but his young voice doesn’t support him where it matters.
Lohitashwa is good, Satya narcissistic and Tilak, the less said the better. Rajesh Ramnath’s tunes and some worthless lyrics compete for the major irritant spot. Camerawork is ok.
This ‘Kencha’ will definitely have people expecting some value for their money, see red.
