Director Jeethu Joseph garnered a fair deal of attention when he wielded the microphone for the Malayalam movie Drishyam, which emerged as a big hit while receiving rave reviews from fans.

He later remade the Mohanlal-starrer in Tamil as Papanasam with actor Kamal Haasan essaying the lead role. The remake too proved to be a commercial success, helping the filmmaker add a new dimension to his career.

Speaking to DH, the filmmaker says that he might make a sequel to Papanasam if 'Ulaga Nayagan' expresses a desire to act in it.

"I would love to make the film if Kamal sir and the producer agree to let me go ahead with it," says the Memories helmer.

Papasanam, produced by Wide Angle Creations and RajKumar Theatres Pvt. Ltd, revolved around the journey of a protective father while blurring the lines between 'right' and 'wrong'. Kamal matched Mohanlal's performance, giving strong proof of his acting abilities.

While the film was a faithful adaptation of Drishyam, a few scenes were tweaked a bit to do justice to the Hey Ram actor's reel image. Papanasam had an impressive cast that included Gautami, Nivetha Thomas and Asha Sarath.

While it remains to be seen whether Papanasam gets a sequel, Jeethu is gearing up for the release of Drishyam 2, a sequel to Drishyam. The film revolves around what happens when the protagonist is haunted by the past. It is expected to be 'more complex' than the first part. The thriller has piqued the curiosity of the janta with its trailer. Drishyam 2 has an impressive cast that includes Meena, Asha, Esther Anil and Ansiba, who were also a part of the prequel.

It is slated to release on Amazon Prime Video on February 19, skipping the theatrical route. The general perception is that that has the potential to help Malayalam cinema scale new heights.
