Mollywood actor Mohanlal took to Twitter on Sunday to confirm that his upcoming movie Marakkar will hit the screens on May 13. The biggie was originally supposed to release last year but that did not happen due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The magnum opus has been directed by ace filmmaker Priyadarshan, who previously collaborated with 'Lalettan' for films such as Kaalapani and Oppam, and revolves around the journey of a naval admiral. It has a strong cast that includes Arjun Sarja, Manju Warrier, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Bollywood's Suniel Shetty and Pranav Mohanlal. There were talks of Kannada actor Sudeep being a part of the movie but this is yet to be confirmed.
Marakkar is slated to release in multiple languages and many feel that it may open new avenues for Mollywood.
Mohanlal, meanwhile, is going through a busy phase on the work front, The 'Complete Actor' was last seen in the thriller Drishyam 2, a sequel to the cult film Drishyam. The Jeethu Joseph-helmed movie revolves around the protagonist's attempts at protecting his family from danger from the past. It received rave reviews from most critics. Some, however, felt that the first hour was not as good as expected.

Mohanlal will soon be seen in the action-comedy Aaraattu, which marks his first collaboration with Shraddha Srinath. It is set in the Palakkad district and has a storyline that may click with the target audience. He is also expected to begin work in Barroz, which will mark his directorial debut, in the days to come.
He will be reuniting with Jeethu for the movie Ram, which was put on hold due to the Covid-19 situation. It has piqued the curiosity of fans as it features actor Trisha as the leading lady and marks her return to Malayalam cinema.
The buzz is that he may team up with ace filmmaker Trivikram Srinivas for a Telugu film starring Jr NTR.
