Kollywood is truly blessed. For, a brave new breed of promising young band of directors are successfully striding Kodambakkam’s movie marquee bringing cinema with a difference. Breaking away from beaten path, eschewing commercial concerns, these happy brood, present films that are marked departure from mundane. They are a throw-back to earlier era when a similar scenario ruled roost Chennai filmdom.

Thus, flush from the heady success of ‘Subramaniapuram’, the team, with roles reversed, present ‘Naadodigal’. A directorial debut, Samuthirakani, while revealing flashes of directorial adeptness, has, however, succumbed to dictates of commercial demands. For, the film’s cacophonous score, but for a soulful song, and needless delineations mar an otherwise passable fare.

Scoring badly in comparision with Sasikumar’s trendsetting ‘Subramaniapuram’, Samuthirakani’s ‘Naadodigal’ revolving around the theme ‘Nanbanin nanban ennudaya nanban’ (Friend’s friend is my friend) concerns Karunakaran, Pandi and Chandran who sacrifice their all for Saravanan so he can wed lady-love Prabha. However, subsequent estrangement of the newly-weds puts paid to the toil and ignominy the trio suffered for cupid-couple’s sake. Where does this lead to? What’s ‘Naadodigal’s message? Visit. It’s worth a dekko.
