Ramgopal Varma made the suspense thriller ‘Kaun’ with his then-muse Urmila and Satya-find Manoj Bajpai. Now, Rajashekhar has remade the same with Ramesh Arvind and Suma Guha as ‘Shock’. A thriller with only three nameless characters all playing out their parts in a mansion, on a dark, rainy day/night, Shock runs the risk of being dismissed as yet another crude ‘B’ category flick.

Which it is not. A riveting drama like its original, the film manages to keep viewers engrossed for the better part of 90-odd minutes. M S Maruthi’s  score is an overkill, but there is plenty of space for the actors to perform and boy, do they perform! Ramesh comes out of his image-fed mannerisms and is a treat to watch.

Lending him able support is Neenasam Ashwath. Suma Guha has also moved away from her disastrous debut Preethiyinda Ramesh. Cameraman Niranjan Babu’s work is adequate. Shock doesn’t shock but entertains serious film buffs.
