Going, going, gone?
Going, going, gone?

A building or a room containing collection of books that people can read or borrow.’ This is the meaning of library that I found in my dictionary, but to me, it’s so much more.

Library is not only a place to read, but also a place where we get peace of mind, a place where we can socialise, and make books our best friends. Reading books not only gives us knowledge, but also helps us develop an open and creative mind. Most importantly, libraries are the places where you can expect smart and clear answers to the most difficult of questions.

But honestly, how many of us visit a library in this busy world, at least once a week? We choose to go to the movies, malls, restaurants etc upon going to a library.

Lemony Snicket says, “A good library will never be too neat, or too dusty, because somebody will always be in it, taking books off the shelves and staying up late reading them.” These words are only found on paper now; there are hardly any libraries left to correlate these words with. Why are we being so tech-savvy? Where did the awesome hobby of going to a library disappear? Youth nowadays is more obsessed with Facebook rather than books; Google is considered to be the guru for everything, whether it’s homework or projects.

Forget visiting a library, many people don’t even know the nearby address of it. Now that we have the internet, don’t we want libraries?

Library is where books make you feel better without any cost. Nowadays, students using e-materials are far more than students visiting a library. Days where children were seen with comic books have almost disappeared; we see them playing video games instead.

So it was proved long back that library is not a place with serious surroundings, it’s still a place where one enjoys and feels better. Students can learn better in libraries by referring to various books; it gives them a different experience. There are several reasons that should help us see that we can’t go wrong with studying in a library. When we figure out the best method for us, and find our favourite floor or area in the library, we will make it a part of our daily study schedule.

Library helps one think in an innovative way; we start competing with ourselves for tasting the flavours of all the books there. Staying inside a library, we get transported to a new imaginary world where we have absolutely no restrictions.

There is so much more in this place called library that cannot be expressed in words. So, why are we letting this precious institution fade away?

If knowledge is a sea, then a library is its shore. There may be many options of study, but all those are nothing when compared to our dear library. The experience you get here is totally out of the world!

But this great institution is going out of the world gradually, and the cause for this is nothing but us — we are so addicted to newer technologies that we forget the old methods.

The day is not far when libraries turn into history. Let’s make 2016 a library special — try going to a library nearby at least once a week, grab a book, and merge into the world of library.

This institution still has a very long life,  if we let it live!
