Kidney cancer is also known as renal cell carcinoma and is one of the ten most common cancers in India. Researchers state that 30% of kidney cancers are diagnosed in the age group below 50 years. Such a medical condition is common in both genders while age plays an important role in defining the outcomes. Kidney cancer is often difficult to detect in the early stages. The symptoms do not appear until the later stages or until the tumor has developed completely. It is often diagnosed accidentally during routine imaging tests like ultrasound or CT scans.

Early detection of the medical condition can provide positive results for the treatment, therefore one should not avoid certain early warning signs and visit the doctor immediately. Here are a few warning signs which can help one to diagnose renal cancer at an early stage:

Blood in the urine: One of the most common symptoms of renal cancer is blood in the urine or commonly known as hematuria. According to the Kidney Cancer Association, this symptom is detected in nearly 40% to 50% of the population suffering from renal cancer. A small amount of blood in the urine can change the colour of the urine to pink, red, or brown while if the blood is noticed consistently then urine tests need to be done immediately.

Lower back pain: Lower back pain is one of the prominent signs of renal cancer in an advanced stage. About 41% of patients suffering from such a medical condition report having severe lower back pain. The pain can range from a dull pain to a sharp one where one also experiences side pain. If the pain is consistent over a couple of days then immediate consultation with the doctor is recommended.

Fatigue: The basic function of our kidneys is to produce red blood cells but if a tumor is present, it hinders the growth of our red blood cells leading to the formation of anaemia. It causes fatigue and makes the patient weak. Cancer fatigue is not easy to deal with, it makes a person feel extremely tired and out of energy at odd hours. When such unusual tiredness is noticed, it is always advisable to consult with a medical expert.

Unexpected weight loss: Nearly 28% of the population suffering from kidney cancer report loss of appetite, which results in an unexpected weight loss. This happens when the tumor has developed completely and has started spreading to other organs. Patients suffer from dizziness and pale-looking skin.

Frequent fever: When someone experiences frequent or intermittent fever but not accompanied by flu symptoms, then it is a matter of concern. If the fever stays for a couple of days then immediate doctor consultation is recommended.
