The party claimed that the BJP was "nervous" with the developments in the Supreme Court-monitored probe in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case and hence using pressure tactics to block the probe.
"Shah was only a Minister of State for Home and MoS can transfer IPS officers. The transfers of many IPS officers in the state were made by Narendra Modi. It is our understanding that these uncomfortable questions will be asked of Modi and he will have to answer them," Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmed said here.
"BJP is nervous and afraid that the investigation may go beyond Amit Shah and hence using pressure tactics to block further investigation into the case," Ahmed said.
The CBI today arrested Amit Shah in Sohrabuddin fake encounter case after he appeared before the agency for questioning in Ahmedabad.
Meanwhile, another Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi attacked the BJP for questioning the role of CBI in the case.
"Do you think CBI is full of a bunch of fools who will risk their entire career by making false allegations, non-existing allegations which are going to be examined by the Supreme Court," Singhvi asked.
Ahmed said the law will take its own course into the matter and termed it as "unfortunate that BJP is trying to defend a cold blooded murder (of Sohrabuddin).
"CBI has ample evidence against Shah," he said.
The Congress spokesman said the former Gujarat Home Minister had no option but to appear before CBI as there was no possibility of any court in the country granting him an anticipatory bail in the case, whose investigation is being monitored by the Supreme Court.
