A woman judge in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh town, about 400 km from here, has alleged that an attempt was made to rape and murder her.
The additional sessions judge at Aligarh lodged a complaint with the police alleging that two people known to her tried to rape and murder her at her official residence in the town on Sunday night.
According to police sources here, her maid found her unconscious at her official residence in the Judges' Compound of the Civil Lines area in the town on Monday. The maid reported the matter to the police and members of the judge's family. She had been living in Aligarh alone for several months.
Police officials, quoting the complaint lodged by the official's family, said an attempt was made to kill the woman by poisoning her after the alleged culprits’ rape bid failed. The victim was rushed to the medical college hospital.
The judge, who had scratch marks on her body, was discharged from hospital on Monday afternoon.
According to the complaint, two persons known to the judge barged into her residence around midnight on Sunday and tried to rape her. They tried to force her to drink pesticide when she resisted and shouted for help, added sources.
A half-empty bottle of pesticide was recovered from the room where she was found lying, said the sources.
A case of attempt to rape and murder had been registered, with the FIR naming the two accused as Gopal Gupta from Bareilly and Pankaj from Farrukhabad. The police said that efforts were being made to nab the alleged culprits.
A number of rape incidents had been reported from different parts of the state over the past few days. The Akhilesh Yadav government has been under attack from different quarters over its alleged failure to check crimes against the women.
