15 people die in rain-related incidents in Andhra Pradesh
As many as 15 people died in Andhra Pradesh due to rain-related incidents in the past three days, following unprecedented rainfall caused by a depression in the Bay of Bengal, the government said on Monday.
According to an official release, five persons died at Mogalrajapuram in Vijayawada due to landslides and one person each at Vijayawada Rural, G Kondru mandal and Reddygudem mandal. They all belong to NTR district.
"Five deaths in Guntur district. One teacher and two students travelling from Uppalapadu to Namburu were washed away in a local stream and an 80-year-old woman died when boulders fell on her in the first ward of Mangalagiri town," the release said.
Further, it said that another person was washed away in Kondaveedu stream at Ponnekallu village in Guntur district.
Besides rain-related deaths, three children drowned in Prakasam district's Markapuram division when they went swimming, the release said. (PTI)
16 dead in rain-related incidents in Telangana
At least 16 people lost their lives in various rain-related incidents, while some persons were still missing during the current spell of heavy rainfall in Telangana even as Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy decided to urge the Centre to declare the floods in the state as a national calamity.
State IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu told reporters that full details would be known after reports on the extent of damage were received. (PTI)

Scores of people scrambled for milk and food packets in flood-ravaged Vijayawada on Monday, and also complained about alleged government apathy towards their hardships in the past three days.
Unprecedented torrential downpour over the past three days submerged multiple localities in the centrally located commercial city.
Inundated localities included Ajit Singh Nagar, Nandamuri Nagar, Andhra Prabha colony, LBS Nagar, Vambay colony and Ayodhya Nagar. Other submerged areas included Madhura Nagar, Ramakrishna Puram, New Rajarajeswari Peta, Old Rajarajeswari Peta, Pipula Road, Payakapuram, Shanti Nagar, Prasanthi Nagar, Jakkampudi and Pathapadu.
Similar was the situation in Nainavaram, Chittinagar, Milk Project area, Bridge Peta and others. (PTI)

ICAR scientist among 16 killed in Telangana deluge
A man and his scientist daughter, who were washed away, were among the 16 people who died in the rain-related incidents in Telangana, which witnessed heavy downpour since Saturday.
N Aswini, a scientist, was working at the ICAR - National Institute of Biotic Stress Management's School of Crop Resistance System Research in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
Aswini along with her father N Motilal, died when the car they were travelling in was swept away while it was about to cross an overflowing stream in Maripeda mandal in Mahabubabad district in the early hours of Sunday, police said.
Rahul Gandhi urges Centre, Andhra govt to provide rehabilitation packages for those affected by rains
New Delhi: With parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh reeling from torrential rains, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday urged Congress leaders and workers to mobilise all available resources to support the ongoing relief and rescue efforts.
Gandhi asserted that the Telangana Government is working tirelessly to manage the crisis and initiate the rebuilding process.
"I strongly urge both the central government and the Andhra Pradesh government to swiftly provide comprehensive rehabilitation packages for all those affected by this disaster," he said.
"My thoughts are with the people of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as they endure relentless rainfall and devastating floods," the former Congress chief said.
He extended his deepest condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones.
"I urge Congress leaders and workers to mobilise all available resources to support the ongoing relief and rescue efforts," Gandhi said.
At least 16 people lost their lives in various rain-related incidents as heavy rains lashed Telangana and the state government on Monday put the damage at Rs 5,000 crore as per preliminary estimates and sought an immediate assistance of Rs 2,000 crore from the Centre.
The incessant rainfall caused inundation of low-lying areas, damage to agricultural crops and disruption of the state's rail and road links with neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who announced an ex-gratia of Rs five lakh each to the kin of those killed in the rain-related incidents, urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the rain-hit areas and declare the floods as a national calamity.
Nearly 4.5 lakh people were affected by the unprecedented rainfall and floods in Andhra Pradesh over the past three days. There have been 15 fatalities and 31,238 people have been evacuated to 166 relief camps. (PTI)
Andhra CM Naidu visits flood-hit places, interacts with affected people
Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu visited flood-hit places in the state and interacted with the affected people and urged them to stay strong.
He visited the Ajit Singh Nagar in Vijayawada, the worst affected area, thrice within 24 hours. During one of the visits, Naidu personally distributed food packets to the people from a boat.
He also visited other affected places such as Krishnalanka, Ibrahimpatnam, Ferry, Jupudi and Mulapadu.
Naidu interacted with people and promised to provide food and water to every affected person and said he would stay in the midst of flood victims until their problems were solved.
"Visited flood-affected areas in Vijayawada for the second day. I personally monitored the relief being extended to flood victims...," he said in a post on X.
"Safety of the people is our responsibility. We are putting in all efforts to relieve them as soon as possible from this unexpected calamity," the CM said and called on the affected people to stay strong.
On Sunday, Naidu had called up Union Home Minister Amit Shah and requested for additional boats and helicopters to bolster relief and rescue work, and also updated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the ground situation.
During a review meeting on Monday, the CM directed officials to keep clothes ready for people arriving at rehabilitation centres and also to add fruits as part of food distribution. He directed officials to arrange for power banks to the flood-affected as many are suffering without power.
Further, the CM promised to do justice to all the people who suffered damage in the floods and noted that saving lives is the primary objective now. (PTI)
