After the recent encounter near Line of Control (LoC) in Nowgam sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district in which two militants and three soldiers were killed, Army has intensified the search operations to wipeout remaining militants who might have succeeded to infiltrate.

Sources told Deccan Herald that the group that infiltrated from Nowgam sector on Wednesday comprised of 6-8 militants and only two among them were killed by the Army.

“Army has found movement of only five militants, two of whom were killed and three are still hiding somewhere in the forest areas. However, the number of militants who were launched from Pakistan occupied Kashmir could be more but the Army couldn’t notice the movement of all who crossed the LoC,” they said.

General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Baramulla based 19 Division of the Army Major General Bipin Rawat confirmed that three militants out of infiltrated group are still hiding near the LoC in Nowgam sector.

“Army has laid ambushes in the forests and are not making any movement in the area where it suspects that the three militants are hiding so as to avoid any casualty,” he added.
A senior Army official said the combing operation was going on in the area.
