Guwahati: Assam government on Monday asked police to carry out an investigation into complaint by a female job aspirant that a female police constable had frisked her inappropriately just before a written examination for recruitment in grade-III posts.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asked director general of police GP Singh to carry out the investigation after her compliant in Nalbari district.

Following this, Singh asked a woman DIG to rush to the district and carry out an investigation. 

"For me, the dignity and respect of our mothers and sisters are of utmost importance and non-negotiable. The DGP also informed me of another incident in North Lakhimpur, where cheating material was recovered from the inner garment of a girl student on the same day," Sarma posted on X on Monday morning. 

The state government on Sunday suspended mobile and wi-fi internet for three and half hours, between 10 am to 1.30pm, during the written examinations for recruitment in grade III posts in various departments. Altogether 11, 23, 204 lakh candidates appeared in 2,305 centres.

A notification on Saturday said 429 centres were identified as sensitive due to their geographical location and history of cheating and other malpractices. It said it was decided to suspend the mobile internet for conducting the examinations in "free, fair and transparent" manner.

The BJP-led government in the state had faced a lot of criticism after question papers were allegedly leaked during some tests conducted for recruitment in government departments in the past. On Sunday, the Opposition Congress and others said suspension of the internet suggested the government's failure to conduct recruitment tests without disrupting normal activities. 

On Monday, the CM said the government would work out a standard operating procedures for conduct of such examinations in the future. The Opposition parties slammed the government for the Nalbari incident.
