In a shocking incident, a 48-year-old man named Prakash Mandal from Bihar’s Bhagalpur walked into a hospital with a Russell's Viper and asked for emergency treatment after being bitten by the snake.
A Russell's Viper is believed to be one of the most venomous snakes in the world.
The doctors as well as all the people in the hospital were stunned to see Prakash gripping the venomous snake's head tightly with his bare hand to prevent further bites by the angry reptile. The video of incident has gone viral on social media.
In the viral video, Prakash can be seen wearing a vest and dhoti, holding the snake’s mouth tightly, urging doctors to treat him as he had been bitten.
He had tied a cloth in a tourniquet around his arm near the snake bite in order to restricted the blood flow.
Everyone else in the video look like they are panicking as they stand at a distance from him. Later, a man was seen escorting Prakash to a secluded area by holding his hand, to ensure that people around weren't accidently bitten too by the deadly reptile.
As per a NDTV report, Prakash is still under treatment and his condition remains unknown.
Nearly about 5 million snakebites occur each year in India, a WHO report stated, resulting in up to 2.7 million 'envenomings' caused by toxins in the bite of a venomous snake.
The report also added that between 81,000 and 138,000 deaths occur each year. Many snakebites even go unreported because the victims often seek treatment from non-medical sources or do not have access to proper health care.
