BJP government in the state was left red faced after a senior Uttar Pradesh cop claimed that one could get the posting of one's choice by bribing senior police officials.
The policeman, identified as Parashuram, who was the station house officer (SHO) of Dibai police station in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahar district, about 450 kilometre from here, reportedly made the claim in a series of WhatsApp messages to one of his colleague, who wanted a transfer to another place and had sought his advice.
''Who doesn't take money....but no one takes it directly....all one has to do is to identify the right conduit,'' the SHO told his colleague, adding that he himself had to pay Rs. 50,000 to a clerk at the ADG camp office to get himself transferred from Noida to Bulandshahar.
Parashuram also told his colleague through the messages that he had to shell out a further Rs. three lakh to a close aide of the district police chief to get the charge of the Dibai police station.
The matter came to light, when the WhatsApp messages uploaded on social networking sites went viral.
Both Parashuram and the senior police officials in the district rejected the charges and claimed that the official cell phone of the SHO was ''hacked''.
Police said that an FIR has been lodged in this connection and efforts were on to identify the hacker.
Barely a few days ago, the then SHO of a police station in state's Jhansi district was caught on tape ''advising'' a dreaded criminal, who faced over 60 cases including those of murder and kidnapping, as to how he (criminal) could prevent his encounter.
He was caught telling the criminal that the latter would have to ''manage'' some influential local BJP-leaders for this purpose.
