Police on Tuesday got a call about a man lying in an injured state in a pool of blood on Chamelian Road in Sadar Bazar area, said an officer.

When they reached the spot they found that the man was stabbed in the right side of neck with a broken bottle by his side. They rushed him to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital, where he succumbed due to excessive bleeding, they said.

The victim's identity was revealed when someone called him on his phone.

According to police, the man turned to be Mohammad Sameer, aged 32, a resident of Sultanpuri.

It appears that he was hit by the broken liquor bottle found near the spot with stains of blood, the officer said.

During investigation, a CCTV footage showed two people on a motorcycle near the crime spot, he said.

The blurred footage showed a man whose built matched the profile picture of one of the people who had called Sameer on WhatsApp.

On Tuesday with the help of local intelligence, police arrested a man who was identified as Mohammad Aamir.

Amir during questioning revealed it was his plan to kill Sameer and also revealed the identity of his accomplice, Rizwan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) Sagar Singh Kalsi said.

Rizwan was arrested on Wednesday from Brahmpuri in northeast Delhi. The clothes they both were wearing at the time of the crime were recovered from the bank of Yamuna, the DCP said.

Aamir in his confession told police said that he was a close friend of Sameer as both were born and brought up in Ahata-Kidara. He said he is married and has one son, but his wife left him last year and is currently living with her parents in Aligarh in UP, Kalsi said.

Sameer's marriage too was on the rocks since he was out of work and the couple fought regularly. Sameer had been living at his in-laws' house in Sultanpuri with his family since 2016, which also contributed to disaffection between them, the DCP said.

Aamir was infatuated with Sameer’s wife, and had planned the whole crime and also roped in Rizwan to kill Sameer, police said.

Since the two friends often drank together, on Tuesday too, they bought some liquor from Chamelian Road, and started drinking at the corner of Chamelian Road behind fire station.

A fight broke out between them and Rizwan attacked Samir in his neck with a broken glass bottle, and fled with Aamir, police added.
