A CBI court here will on October 3 frame charges against former Union minister Dayanidhi Maran, his brother Kalanidhi Maran and four others in connection with the illegal telephone exchange case.
When the case came up for hearing on Friday before the XIV special judge for CBI cases, S Natrajan, Dayanidhi and the other accused, except Kalanidhi, appeared before the court.
The agency had registered a case on July 23, 2013 against the brothers on charges of setting up a telephone exchange, which was used to transfer high-resolution data without raising bills, between 2004 and 2007, thereby causing a huge loss to the exchequer.
