A policeman was killed when militants attacked the residence of a BJP leader in the Nowgam area on the outskirts of Srinagar city.
A police official said militants fired at the guard post outside the residence of BJP leader, Muhammad Anwar Khan at Aribagh, Nowgam in which a policeman sustained injuries.
He was immediately shifted to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, he said.
“The alert guards fired in retaliation and repulsed the attack. The slain policeman has been identified as Ramez Raja,” the official said and added the BJP leader is safe as the attackers fled after facing resistance from the guards.
BJP spokesperson Altaf Thakur said that he spoke to Khan over the phone. “Khan is safe as the attack has been foiled. We condemn such attack," he said.
