Undeterred by the Supreme Court's notice to the state government on alleged detention of a ten-year-old rape victim by the police, the men in khaki in Uttar Pradesh once again allegedly thrashed and detained a gang-rape victim, when the latter approached them for registering her complaint.
The shocking incident occurred in Bijnore district, about 350 km from here, on Friday last when the cops at Afzalgarh police station, instead of registering the complaint of the victim, allegedly thrashed her and locked her up in a room inside the police station. The family members of the victim alleged that the cops also let off the two youths, who had been accused of raping the girl.
Taking a serious view of the matter, the government suspended the three police officials, including the station house officer Ramji Lal and woman constable Sukhraj Kaur, according to official sources here.
According to reports, the victim had been kidnapped from a jungle near her village by two youths on Thursday and was allegedly gang-raped. She was found in the jungles by her parents on Friday in a semi-conscious state.
The victim's family alleged that the police threatened them with dire consequences if they insisted on registering their complaint. ``The police die not register our complaint nor did they send the girl for medical examination'', the family members alleged.
They also alleged that the two youths were summoned to the police station but were later allowed to go.
The family members approached the senior district police officials, who intervened and got a complained registered and suspended three cops. Barely a few days back, a minor had allegedly been put in the lockup by the police in UP's Bulandshahar district after she approached them for registration of a case of rape. The apex court has issued a notice to the government seeking a reply on the alleged detention.
