Irish Covid-19 'test and trace' system overwhelmed by case surge
Ireland's system for tracing contacts of Covid-19 cases has been overwhelmed by a surge in cases forcing the health service in recent days to advise infected individuals to identify their own close contacts and tell them to get tested, officials said.

Poland's total coronavirus cases top 200,000
Poland's total number of confirmed coronavirus infections has doubled in less than three weeks and now exceeds 200,000, the health ministry said, as it announced a new daily record of 10,040 new cases.
Poland has now recorded 202,579 cases and 3,851 deaths, 130 of those reported on Wednesday. It passed 100,000 infections on Oct. 4.

The Philippine health ministry on Wednesday confirmed 1,509 new coronavirus infections, its lowest daily increase in cases in more than six weeks.
In a bulletin, the ministry said there were 60 additional Covid-19 deaths confirmed. Total cases have risen to 362,243 while deaths have reached 6,747.
Odisha reports 1,931 new Covid-19 cases, 13 more fatalities
Odisha on Wednesday reported 1,931 new Covid-19 cases, which took the tally in the coastal state to 2,74,181, while 13 fresh fatalities pushed the death toll to 1,181, a health department official said.
Of the new cases, 1,120 were reported from various quarantine centres and 811 people detected during contact tracing, he said.

Australian authorities say they're treating a Covid-19 case in the city of Melbourne as a rare reinfection.

The Thane Municipal Corporation has started virtual yoga classes for patients at a civic-run Covid-19 hospital in the city with an aim to ensure their speedy recovery.
Mayor Naresh Mhaske inaugurated the virtual yoga classes at the hospital located in Balkum area here in Maharashtra on Wednesday.

Jharkhand reports 542 new Covid-19 cases, seven fresh fatalities
Jharkhand's Covid-19 tally rose to 97,414 as 542 more people tested positive for the infection, a health department official said on Wednesday.
Seven more patients succumbed to the disease, pushing the state's coronavirus death toll to 849, he said.
Of the fresh fatalities, two were reported from Ranchi and one each from East Singhbhum, Bokaro, Saraikela, Khunti and Dhanbad, the official said.

New Zealand reported two new cases of Covid-19 in the community linked to a port worker who tested positive over the weekend, and 23 imported cases.
Most of the imported cases are linked to a group of Russian and Ukrainian fishermen who were staying at a managed isolation facility in Christchurch, the Director General of health, Ashley Bloomfield, said.
Centre to drop plasma therapy to treat Covid-19
Armed with scientific evidence proving its futility, the Centre is set to drop the convalescent plasma therapy as a Covid-19 treatment option from the national treatment guidelines.
This comes in the wake of the world's largest study on such therapy by Indian researchers who demonstrated that treating a Covid-19 patient with the plasma of another infected-and-cured patient's plasma neither reduces the mortality nor prevents the disease's progression from a mild to a severe one.

US reports about 300,000 more deaths during Covid-19 than in typical year
Nearly 300,000 more people have died in the United States in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic than would be expected based on historical trends, with at least two-thirds due to Covid-19, a government report released on Tuesday showed, adding that Covid deaths likely were undercounted.
The report from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimated that 299,028 more people died between Jan. 26 and Oct. 3 than the average numbers from past years would have indicated.
