India's Covid-19 caseload sprinted past the 60 lakh on Sunday night, 12 days after it crossed the 50-lakh mark, while the total number of recoveries too surged to 50,02,959, according to data from states and union territories.
Nine deaths were reported from Ludhiana, eight from Jalandhar, six from Patiala, five each from Amritsar and Pathankot and three each from Hoshiarpur and Rupnagar, as per the state health department's medical bulletin.
The Delhi Police and the DCPCR have seen an increase in cases of child labour during the Covid-19 pandemic which along with the lockdown has severely hit the income of families, giving an opportunity for traffickers to target the poor and persuade them to send their children to work, officials said on Sunday.

A total of 5,706 people were discharged from hospitals on Sunday as the cumulative recoveries touched 5,25,154 and the active cases stood at 46,341, it said in a bulletin. Chennai, which saw its daily cases crossing the 1,000 mark on September 24 after a gap of a few weeks, added 1,280 fresh infections on Sunday, taking its tally to 1,63,423 out of the state's aggregate of 5,80,808.

These high figures have not seen since June 5, according to statistics released by the office of Governor Andrew Cuomo.
"Of the 99,953 tests reported yesterday (Friday), 1,005 were positive," Cuomo tweeted.

Cinema halls are set to reopen in West Bengal from October 1 after remaining closed for over six months in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Saturday.
She also said musical, dance and magic shows would be permitted in the state from next month.
"To return to normalcy, Jatras, Plays, OATs, Cinemas & all musical, dance, recital & magic shows shall be allowed to function with 50 participants or less from 1 Oct, subject to adherence to physical distancing norms, wearing of masks & compliance to precautionary protocols," the chief minister said on Twitter.
Sikkim Assembly Speaker L B Das tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday along with 16 members of his staff and family, officials said.
Karnataka on Saturday reported 8,811 new Covid-19 cases and 86 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 5,66,023 and the death toll to 8,503, the Health department said.
