A court in Rajasthan has asked police to file a complaint against the Shankaracharya of Dwaraka for his controversial remarks over the worship of Shirdi Sai Baba, which continues to anger activists and devotees across the country.
The court acted on a petition by activist Ashok Sharma, who sought legal action against the seer for hurting religious sentiments of thousands of Sai Baba devotees both at home and abroad.
“The allegations against Shankaracharya are being examined and if they are found to be true in the probe, an FIR would be lodged against him under relevant sections of the IPC,” said a senior official of the Vaishali Nagar Police station, where the complaint has been filed in accordance with the court’s directions.
