The BJP has demanded that the Delhi government close all schools up to the fifth standard. Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said that due to the inactivity of the Delhi government, the PM 2.5 levels surpassed 400 in Delhi while the PM 10 levels crossed 1000.

“Delhi has become a gas chamber where everyone is coughing and complaining of trouble breathing. The AAP government in Delhi should shut down all private and government schools up to class five to protect the children from the hazardous air quality. The Delhi government has completely failed to control pollution,” he said.

Sachdeva, who was himself hospitalised last month after taking a dip in the polluted Yamuna, said that the elderly and child team are the most vulnerable to air pollution. “Immediate arrangements must be made to distribute medicines to protect people against pollution,” he said.

Party spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala wore an industrial gas mask in the thick fog and called Delhi a “gas chamber”.

“AAP used to blame stubble burning in Punjab for pollution. Now, more than 6000 cases of stubble burning have happened in Punjab but they chose to stay silent on that. They blame Diwali, UP and Haryana for the rise in air pollution. But they stay silent on the internal reasons of Delhi for this situation...Whether it is pollution in Yamuna River or air pollution in Delhi, AAP is responsible for all this,” he said.
