New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said terrorism, attempts to spread unrest through Artificial Intelligence (AI), and conspiracies to incite religious sentiments will continue to challenge the security establishment of the country even though India has managed to establish relative peace in Jammu and Kashmir, the north-east, and Naxal-affected areas.

Addressing the Police Commemoration Day function at the National Police Memorial here, he said no matter how big the threats and challenges are, they cannot stand in the face of the unwavering resolve of our soldiers, and asserted that the sacrifice of police martyrs will not go in vain and the country will definitely become fully developed by 2047.

"There was disruption of peace in Jammu and Kashmir, Left-wing extremism affected areas, and the Northeast for decades, but in the last ten years, we have succeeded in establishing peace due to the dedication and efficiency of our security forces," he said.

"However, our fight is not over yet. Emerging threats like drones, narcotics trade, cybercrime, attempts to spread unrest through Artificial Intelligence (AI), conspiracies to incite religious sentiments, infiltration, smuggling of illegal weapons, and terrorism are the challenges we face today," he said.

He also referred to the three new criminal laws, which came into force on July 1 and the work to establish the infrastructure for their implementation that had started five years ago, while insisting that India's criminal justice system will be the "most modern in the world".

Full justice up to the Supreme Court could be delivered within three years of the registration of an FIR, he said.

Since independence, the Home Minister said 36,438 police personnel have laid down their lives for the safety and security of the country, with 216 of them in the last year, and the country will remain forever grateful for their sacrifice in the country’s development journey.

“I want to assure the family members of the martyrs that their sacrifice will not go in vain. The country will remain safe and achieve its goal despite any challenge which may come in the way, and India will definitely become a developed nation by 2047,” he said.

Shah said that the Narendra Modi government has introduced many schemes for the welfare of police personnel and referred to the Ayushman CAPF scheme, in which over 41 lakh cards have been distributed and 13 lakh claims worth about Rs 1,422 crore have been settled.

In the housing scheme, he said, the government has set a target to increase the housing satisfaction ratio while emphasising that they have approved the construction of 13,000 houses and 113 barracks at a cost of Rs 3,100 crore in 2015, out of which 11,276 houses and 111 barracks have been completed by March 2024.
