New Delhi: The BJP on Saturday accused the AAP of a scam in the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) alleging that the number of consumers, metres and consumption went up but the earnings have gone down. Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi said that there is a difference of Rs 166 crore in the financial statements of the bank and the Delhi Jal Board.

“The scam in Delhi Jal Board is Rs 3,753 crore under various heads. All the details of the work undertaken by them from 2017-18 to 2022-23 are missing,” Lekhi said at a press conference in the party headquarters.

She added that in over 12,000 orders, tenders were not issued and this amounted to work worth Rs 600 crore.

“The accounts have not been maintained since 2017 and they are trying to hide the details. While an amount of Rs 1,601 crore is missing from the books, there is a mismatch of Rs 1,167 crore between the DJB's financial statement and the conciliation statement of banks. Also, there is no trace of Rs 135 crore term deposit,” she further alleged.

Lekhi also alleged that AAP came to power promising to fix the ‘tanker mafia’ under the Sheila Dikshit government. “That ‘tanker mafia’ is working to this day because wherever they have not laid down water pipelines, water tankers collect Rs 10,000 from the people to supply water from the tanker,” Lekhi added.
