New Delhi: After Atishi was appointed as Arvind Kejriwal's successor for post of chief minister, those against the AAP went digging for old videos where they found certain clips of Atishi's parents speaking against the hanging of Afzal Guru.

The BJP said that Delhi’s new chief minister, is a staunch communist and harbours “anti-national” feelings.

BJP MP from Northeast Delhi Manoj Tiwari said that the new chief minister has “questionable” background.

“They have appointed Atishi as the chief minister of Delhi. We welcome her but her background is questionable. Both her parents had written mercy petitions for Afzal Guru to the President of India. Atishi herself supports those who try to insult India. You can imagine what would happen if such a person occupies the top post,” he told reporters.

Several BJP-affiliated social media handles tweeted and amplified a video of Atishi’s mother Tripta Wahi saying that she was happy that Afzal Guru hanging was stayed but unhappy that he was made a “political scapegoat”.

BJP state president Virendra Sachdeva said that Atishi was made the chief minister since the BJP Aam Aadmi Party had no choice.

“Arvind Kejriwal made her the CM unwillingly. He could not get the CM he wanted because of pressure from Manish Sisodia, that is the same reason she was given all the departments.

"The face has changed, but the corrupt character of this government will remain, and the people of Delhi will ask for answers,” he told reporters.

BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said that Kejriwal made Atishi the CM since he had no trust in his party and wanted someone weaker than him taking up the post.

“Arvind Kejriwal wants to make a puppet, a temporary person, the chief minister of Delhi. He has no confidence in his party. That is why he wants to make someone the chief minister who is weaker than him in the party. There is an internal power struggle in AAP and the public of Delhi are suffering because of this,” he told reporters.
