The much publicised 'dharm sabha' of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) concluded in Ayodhya on Sunday with an ultimatum to the government to clear the way for Ram Temple construction.
The organisation concluded the event with a hint that an ordinance on building the Ram temple might be brought out by the BJP-led Union government after December 11 this year, though it did not adopt any written resolution nor did it announce the date for temple construction, as had been stated by the VHP leaders earlier.
The 'dharm sabha' made thousands of 'Rambhakts' take a pledge to build the temple and vowed to launch a country-wide movement for it.
Speaker after speaker at the 'dharm sabha', who addressed thousands of 'Ram bhakts,' who had poured into the Bada Bhaktmal Bagia grounds in the temple town, targeted the Supreme Court and the BJP over the delay in Ram temple construction and warned that the agitation for the temple would spread across the country.
They also warned the BJP that the 'Rambhakts' would "dump" the government in the next Lok Sabha polls if it failed to build Ram Temple at Ayodhya. "The BJP should not forget that it was a product of the Ram temple movement," said Mahant Parmanand Das.
Prominent seer Swami Rambhadracharya claimed that a senior Union minister, who was number two in the government, had assured him that the Centre would do "something concrete" on the issue.
"A senior Union minister has assured me that an important decision about Ram temple will be taken after December 11... the announcement was to be made on December 6, the day on which the disputed structure was demolished but it could not be done owing to the model code of conduct in the poll-bound states," the Swami claimed without naming the minister.
VHP international vice-president Champat Rai said that Hindus wanted the entire disputed land and not just the "birthplace" of Lord Rama. "We want the entire land... not divided land," Rai said asking the Sunni Central Waqf Board to withdraw its petition in the apex court on the issue.
While some seers asserted that they had "great respect" for the Supreme Court, some others said that the issue could not be decided by the court as it was a matter of faith.
A few speakers also warned that the Hindus would "demolish" every mosque in the country if Ram temple was not built in Ayodhya. One of them advised Prime Minister Narendra Modi to build the Ram temple and become "immortal."
Another speaker even asked Modi to have the ruler of Abu Dhabi lay the foundation stone of the Ram temple. "If Modi can get a temple built in Abu Dhabi, he can also have its ruler lay the foundation stone for Ram temple," he said.
