New Delhi: The BJP has fielded several leaders to allege that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has come under attack of “abusive” language by his opponents.
A column in a major daily by the former DGP of UP argued that the PM has come under attack of abusive language and this does not bode well keeping in mind the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump.
This was followed by a press conference by BJP where spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi echoed the same sentiments. The party also fielded Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to reiterate the claims.
The party’s new narrative comes after IT Cell chief Amit Malviya had justified the assassinations of former prime ministers Indira and Rajiv Gandhi on a TV channel, claiming that they were killed due to their “political choices”.
Trivedi said that a year ago, former Japanese premier Shinzo Abe, too, was assassinated during a political programme. “A few days ago, a similar attempt was made on Presidential nominee Donald Trump, which he narrowly escaped. He has said that utterances of violence and murder where political parties look at their short-term political benefit somewhere inspire such violent attempts. Closer home, prime minister Modi, too, has faced such words continuously,” he said.
Trivedi alleged that Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi had, during election campaigns last year, had said words like “beaten up”, “beaten up with sticks” etc.
“Given the rhetoric in the US that preceded the attack on Donald Trump, this may be the opportune time for India’s political class (Third Time Fail Rahul Gandhi in particular) to reflect on its own conduct and its potential consequences,” a post on the party’s handle on X read.
“The kind of words that are being chosen by the Opposition for PM Modi, is very concerning. The usage of words like ‘hinsa’ (violence) and ‘hatya’ (murder) produce a direct result, it creates an unnecessary tension in society,” union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said.
