Amarchand, who recently accused the CBI officials of pressurising him, on Wednesday tried to escape quizzing by the CBI sleuths in Jodhpur, but was overpowered and subjected to intense questioning in Bilara.

He had also moved an application in the CBI court questioning the charge-sheet and agency’s silence on the whereabouts of Bhanwari Devi, besides a habeas corpus petition and a complaint against former minister Mahipal Maderna.

The CBI is of the view that he has complicity in the missing of Bhanwari and for this purpose, he was in Pipar on September 1, the day she went missing. The CBI is not ready to buy his claim that he was there to get his car repaired.

The CBI also believes that he has been acting at the behest of somebody right from filing complaint against Maderna in the Bilara ACJM court to filing of the fresh application in the CBI court on Wednesday.

His repeated attempt to put the allegation on Maderna only has also turned the needle of suspicion on him despite the fact that Malkhan Singh was also having strained relations with Bhanwari and was quite perturbed by her attempt to malign his reputation. But, he has not even once taken his name as a suspect in the case.

Amarchand, has so far been interrogated by the CBI for a number of times and continue to be interrogated for the past three days in succession.  This serial interrogation brought a sudden turn in his attitude and Amarchand turned offensive against the CBI, casting aspersions and accusing it of “framing him as an accomplice.”

He has also alleged that the agency had forced him to admit that the jewellery reported to have sold by Shahabuddin, an accused to a jeweller on AbRoad, and recovered by the CBI, is that of his missing wife.

“He was not cooperating with us and giving constantly changing versions during the interrogation,” said Dharini Mishra, CBI spokesperson. Maderna, who was sacked from the Ashok Gehlot Cabinet in October after his name cropped up in the case, was on Thursday brought here from Delhi for further questioning.

He was taken to the CBI local office from the airport and would be produced before a CBI court here on Friday.  A CD allegedly showing Maderna in compromising position with Bhanwari had come to light after she went missing.

Human rights organisations alleged violation of human rights against the CBI on Thursday, after pictures of a youth being subjected to third degree methods were published in a local newspaper.  Kavita Srivastava, general secretary of the People Union for Civil Liberties said it is not only human rights violations, but a criminal activity.
