Farmer unions' rejection of the government's latest offer to put the three contentious agriculture laws on hold and their insistence that they will agree to nothing short of a complete repeal seem to have muddied the political waters for the BJP, but some party leaders feel their "obdurate" stand makes it clear that they may be playing in the hands of vested interests.

After holding rehearsals and preparations for the past few days, several batches of farmers from Punjab and Haryana will set out on Saturday to participate in proposed tractor parade on January 26 in Delhi.

Senior BJP leader Uma Bharti on Friday said the Centre and protesting farmers should ensure that stubbornness and ego do not come in the way of resolving differences over the new agri-marketing laws.
Harpal Singh, President of Bhartiya Kisan Union -- Asli Arajnaitik (Real Apolitical), said, "Even if we accept the government's offer, our fellow brothers sitting at Delhi borders will not accept anything other than a repeal of the laws. They will not spare us. What achievement will we show to them?"
He also questioned the government's credibility, alleging it was difficult to believe that they will keep their word on putting the laws on hold for 18 months.
"We will die here but we will not return without getting the laws repealed," Singh said.

BKU leader Rakesh Tikait said: "We conveyed our position clearly to the government that we want a repeal of the laws and not a suspension. The minister (Narendra Singh Tomar) asked us to reconsider our decision."
Tikait said the farmer leaders are discussing internally on this issue.
"After the lunch break, we will convey our decision," he added.

Farmer unions on Friday told the government they want a complete repeal of three contentious farm laws even as the Centre asked them to reconsider its proposal for putting the Acts on hold for 12-18 months, as the two sides met for their 11th round of talks to resolve the nearly-two-month long deadlock.
It is apparent that the crisis in Indian agriculture has manifested itself in the present opposition to the farm laws. It is probably for the first time in recent decades that the Union Budget will be presented under the shadow of one of the largest protests of its kind in the country. Irrespective of the outcome of the protests, it is clear that the Budget would have to take forceful measures to ameliorate the conditions of farmers, especially small, marginal and tenant farmers.

Members of Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene will take out a massive parade in Bengaluru on January 26, opposing the farm laws.In a press conference here, Raitha Sangha president Kodihalli Chandrashekar said that the parade is held in support of the tractor parade to be taken out by farmers in Delhi on Republic Day. The farmers will take out a parade from Nelamangala to Bengaluru, in more than 10,000 tractors and other vehicles, he added.

Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday said the government must accept the agitating farmers’ demands in the next round of talks. He said the farmers have already spent almost two months on roads while protesting against the farm laws.

The Modi government on Friday will hold another round of talks with farmerson farm laws today.
The government on Wednesday had proposed to suspend the three contentious farm laws for one and half years and set up a joint committee to discuss the Acts to end the stalemate, but farmer leaders did not immediately accept the proposal and said they will revert after their internal consultations.
