Will decide next course of action on Feb 29: Farmer leaders on 'Delhi Chalo' call

Candle march 'in memory of martyrs' planned for today evening: Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher

Events planned until February 29 during 'Dilli Chalo' march hiatus

On the evening of February 24th, SKM (Non-political) and Kisan Majoor Morcha will coordinate candle marches across the country to "commemorate the sacrifice of martyr Shubhkaran Singh and three other farmers".

On February 25th, a conference on the subject of India's participation in the WTO - particularly the impact of free trade policies on agriculture - will convene at the Shambhu and Khannauri borders, aimed at raising awareness among farmers nationwide.

February 26th will witness the burning of WTO signboards in the morning. Additionally, larger effigies will be set ablaze at Shambhu and Khannauri borders at 3 PM.

On February 27th, national-level meetings of both forums will take place at the Shambhu and Khannauri borders.

Finally, on February 28th, a joint gathering of both forums will be convened to announce the decisions taken until then, paving the way for the 'Dilli Chalo' march to resume on February 29.

'Inflammatory material, false rumours': Haryana extends internet suspension for seventh time amid farmers' protest

The Haryana government has further extended the suspension of mobile internet and bulk SMS services in seven districts by a day till Saturday in the wake of the ongoing farmers' 'Delhi Chalo' agitation, according to an official order.

Mobile internet and bulk SMS services were first suspended in Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad and Sirsa on February 11 and the suspension was extended on February 13, 15, 17, 19, 20 and 21.

In the order issued on Friday, Additional Chief Secretary T V S N Prasad said, "After assessment of the current prevailing law and order situation in the state, the conditions are still critical and tense in the district Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad and Sirsa."

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Secretary Anurag Verma on Saturday wrote to his Haryana counterpart demanding that a farmer who was injured in clashes during the 'Delhi Chalo' march and is undergoing treatment at PGI Rohtak be handed over to the Punjab authorities.

Verma said that any other farmer from Punjab undergoing treatment in Haryana should also be handed over to the state authorities. (PTI)

Won't end agitation until demands met: Farmer leader Pandher

Farmers participating in the 'Delhi Chalo' call will not end their agitation until their demands are met, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said on Saturday while indicating that their stir may continue even after the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha polls comes into force.

Thousands of farmers have been staying put at Khanauri and Shambhu points on Punjab's border with Haryana along with their tractor-trolleys and trucks after their march to the national capital to press the Centre for various demands, including a legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) for crops, was stopped by security forces.
