Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Tuesday asked the state Advocate General to examine in detail the Supreme Court order staying the new farm laws and called a meeting of his cabinet to discuss it, the CM's media advisor said.

Farmer unions protesting against the new agriculture-marketing laws Tuesday disapproved of the Supreme Court-appointed committee to break the deadlock over the acts, and said they will not appear before the panel and continue their agitation.
Addressing a press conference at Singhu Border here, Union leaders claimed the members of committee formed by the top court are "pro-government".
The Supreme Court earlier in the day stayed the implementation of the controversial farm laws till further orders and set up a four-member committee to resolve the impasse between the Centre and the farmer unions protesting at Delhi's borders over the legislations. (PTI)

Extending greetings to fellow citizens on the eve of Lohri, which is on Wednesday, Makar Sankranti, Pongal, Bhogali Bihu, Uttarayan and Poush Parva, on January 14, he said these festivals are an opportunity for the countrymen to honour the relentless hard work of the farmers.

The apex court-appointed committee on three new farm laws shall hold its first sitting within 10 days in Delhi, says SC.
The Minimum Support Price (MSP) system in existence before the enactment of new farm laws shall be maintained until further orders, says SC. The top court added that no farmer shall be dispossessed or deprived of his title as a result of any action taken under new farm law.(PTI)

The Supreme Court staying implementation of the three controversial new farm laws enacted by the Centre is a welcome and positive step in the right direction to get justice for farmers, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) said on Tuesday.
The apex court has stayed the implementation of the new farm laws till further orders and decided to set up a committee to resolve the impasse over them between the Centre and farmers' unions protesting at Delhi borders.

The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on Tuesday said its members were detained by police after they tried to stage a protest near Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Tomar's residence here against the Centre's farm laws.

The Supreme Court’s decision to put on hold the implementation of the three farm laws passed by the government and to set up a committee to study them is not a solution to the crisis arising from the protests being staged by farmers against the laws.
The Supreme Court on Monday expressed concern over the ongoing farmers' protests and said it has "apprehension" that there may be a breach of peace and warned saying, "We don't want anybody’s blood on our hands”.
