Five die as explosion brings down factory wall

Five people, including three women, were crushed to death and three others injured in a wall collapse following a mysterious explosion in a ware house of a factory in north-west industrial suburb Saki Naka in Andheri (East) on early Friday morning.

Fire brigade said that the distress call came  around 2 am, reporting a deafening sound of an explosion followed by the caving in of a massive compound wall of an aluminium moulding factory, on huts near it.

According to BMC Disaster Control, the fire brigade took over three hours to extricate the bodies of five squatters who were sleeping in their huts when the wall collapsed.

Experts from State Explosive Department were rummaging and collecting samples till late afternoon for chemical analysis and ascertain the cause behind the blast.

Officials from Anti-Terrorist Squad and Bomb Squad also paid a visit to the site.
The names of the deceased were given as: Neha (13), Manisha (15), Savka Patel (55), Bharati (32) and Ganesh Patel (25).  The names of the injured have been given as: Amit Harijan (27), Bhaiyalal (25) and Mangesh Patel (30).
