Former TMC MP Tapas Pal passes away

Veteran Bengali actor and former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Tapas Pal passed away in Mumbai on the early hours of Tuesday due to a heat attack. Pal who was 61 is survived by his wife and daughter.

Pal who was returning to Kolkata from Mumbai after visiting his daughter complained of chest pain at the Mumbai Airport and was rushed to private hospital. According to his family members he passed away at 4 am.

A two time TMC MP and one time MLA Pal was spent 13 months in jail after he was arrested in December 2016 in relation to the Rose Valley chit fund scam. He was late released on bail. He dominated Bengali cinema in the 1980s as a romantic hero.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condoled his demise.

“Saddened & shocked to hear about the demise of Tapas Paul. He was a superstar of Bengali cinema who was a member of the Trinamool family.Tapas served the people as a two-term MP and MLA. We will miss him dearly. My condolences to his wife Nandini, daughter Sohini & his many fans,” tweeted Banerjee.
