Four succumb to swine flu in Pune

 Pune, epicentre of the swine flu epidemic last year, had four people succumbing to the deadly viral condition on Tuesday, including a 30-year old pregnant woman Rani Chandrakant Kakde.

The three other patients who fell victim to swine flu were identified as Somnath Shinde (23), Mahadev Pawar (50) and Kutti Thomas (55).

On Wednesday, six more patients fell victims to swine flu, taking the number of people who died of the disease to 74 since April 1, 2010.

July also witnessed almost a three-fold rise in malaria cases in Mumbai compared to the corresponding period last year. So far, 11 people have died of the disease in Mumbai.
