Expensive iPhones, a three-storied building with a swimming pool, a "small helicopter" and a 10-day tour to the Moon. Yes, you heard it right. To the Moon.

Hold on. There is more: Rs 1 crore for each household, and a car worth Rs 20 lakh and a robot for women to help them with chores.

These are some of the "promises" made by Thulam Saravanan who is contesting as an independent candidate in the Madurai (South) constituency. Does he have the funds to implement them? No.

"I borrowed Rs 10,000 to pay the fees for filing my nomination. I didn't have money even for that," he told Deccan Herald. Then why did Saravanan promise everything under the Moon and including the moon?

"I wanted to create awareness among people on false promises being made by political parties during elections. I wanted to tell them that anything can be promised but implementation is the key," Saravanan said.

A pamphlet by Saravanan promising the above mentioned and many more has now gone viral with many "ruing" they were not part of the constituency from where he is contesting.

Saravanan plans to distribute 20,000 such pamphlets to his voters to tell them not to believe promises made by political parties.

"People should not vote on promises made by parties during elections. They should vote for honest people. I think my pamphlet will help them think on such promises," he said.
