New Delhi: Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant and state health minister Vishwajit Rane were summoned to Delhi to meet the top brass late on Monday night.

The leaders held meetings with BJP president J P Nadda and union home minister Amit Shah.

“It was just a party meeting,” Sawant said after the meeting. He, however, did not deny that the top brass had summoned the two leaders.

Sources said that Shah and Nadda held separate meetings with both Sawant and Rane. Rane was asked to not cross the party’s line on certain matters and was asked to keep in mind the party’s directives, especially in the case of major decisions.

While Sawant remained tight-lipped about the purpose of the visit, BJP sources said that the meeting was to stem infighting in the state. Sawant and Rane were both on opposite sides of a matter.

Last week, Rane had said that it was the state government’s responsibility to provide at least 22,000 jobs to unemployed youth in the state. While Sawant did not comment on the matter, he said that his government will ensure adequate employment to the youth in the state. Rane’s comment has brought to the fore a wedge between the top leaders in the state.
