Ahmedabad: A day after Rahul Gandhi's alleged 'anti-Hindu' remarks in the Lok Sabha, BJP and Congress workers clashed in front of Gujarat Congress headquarters in Ahmedabad on Tuesday evening. Several party workers and police sustained minor injuries.
The clash erupted hours after a group of Bajrang Dal activists defaced Rahul Gandhi's posters at Congress headquarters in Paldi and tore banners to mark their protest against Gandhi's speech.
Bajrang Dal also shared those video footage showing their worker defacing and vandalising the office premises in the wee hours. The office premises were locked. Congress alleged that the Bajrang Dal activists assaulted the guard and his family.
Later on Tuesday evening, a group of BJP workers gathered in front of the Congress office. While BJP claimed that they had gone there to hold a 'peaceful protest', the Congress alleged that BJP workers pelted stones under the protection of city police.
Congress shared several videos showing policemen barging into their headquarters and dragging its leaders out. In a video message, Shaktisinh Gohil warned the police "They shouldn't become a tool of BJP instead of serving public at large." He said that police should keep in mind that "times keep changing."
A senior police officer said that workers of both the parties were detained from the spot and appropriate action is being taken against them.
In his speech on Monday, leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi targeting BJP said that those who call themselves Hindus are "engaged in violence and hate" round the clock.
